Have you noticed a connection between candida and kidney stones?
How about candida and joint pain?
Candida actually creates oxalates in the body causing the formation of stones and painful joints.
Unfortunately, I’ve had a long history with candida and kidney stones.
Last year I had a kidney stone get stuck in my ureter, the tube that connects your kidney to your bladder. Since the stone blocked off the flow of urine, I became septic very quickly and almost lost my life.
Coincidently I’ve had candida issues for years with symptoms for years.
Candida and joint pain are all too common. When my oxalates are high I get neck pain. It feels like my neck is thick and I have pain when I turn my head. This article contains affiliate links which provide us a small fee at no cost to you.
Candida Symptoms include
- Joint pain
- Skin Rashes
- Autoimmune diseases
- Sinus infections
- Leaky Gut
- Nail infections
- Iron deficiency
- Histamine intolerance
I have written extensively on how candida causes extra histamine leading to histamine intolerance.
Did you know that candida can actually create oxalates in the gut?
Candida grows and flourish in the gut and eventually burrow down into the lining of the gut causing leaky gut.
When the gut becomes permeable or “leaky” it’s easy for other things to absorb into the bloodstream.
Since candida can create oxalates in the gut, it’s easy for oxalates to absorb through leaky gut right into your bloodstream making it easy to reach the kidney.
The majority of kidney stones are made out of oxalates. Candida and kidney stones are directly related.
So knowing that candida overgrowth can create oxalates is a vital piece of information for anyone dealing with kidney stones.
Candida and kidney stones are directly related.
Why didn’t my doctor ever tell me this?
I always thought that my kidney stones were from not drinking enough water which is what everyone tells me.
Except for the fact that I drink tons of water so I pretty much felt hopeless.
Kidney stones are formed when extra oxalates and other mineral crystals stick together in the kidney but can also form in the bladder. Stones are extremely painful and can be life threatening which I found out the hard way.
Instead of trying to find ways to treat kidney stones, why not prevent kidney stones, to begin with. Candida and kidney stones are signs of oxalate problems.
What are oxalates?
Oxalates are naturally occurring compounds in foods and are considered antinutrients. They help plants protect themselves from bacteria, animals, and insects.
Oxalates are only dangerous if eaten in very high concentrations such as rhubarb leaves which are poisonous.
Foods that contain naturally higher amounts of oxalates are
- Leafy greens
- Dark Chocolate
It doesn’t make these foods unhealthy but if you have oxalate issues especially kidney stones than it is best to avoid high oxalate foods.
Keep in mind that food only accounts for around 10% of your oxalates. Most come from inside your own body because they are being made or created.
Oxalates are considered anti-nutrients because they bind to other minerals and keep you from absorbing them. In particular, they love to bind to calcium, so you can see how this would be problomatic for a person dealing with calcium oxalate kidney stones.
Other signs you have oxalate issues
- Pain burning or frequent urination
- Dry eye or eye pain
- Cystic fibrosis
- joint pain
- Thyroid problems
- Memory loss
If you suffer from kidney stones or joint pain, chances are high you have oxalate issues as well.
Candida and joint pain is another common complaint.
Candida is known to produce large amounts of oxalates creating the perfect storm for kidney stone formation. (study)
A low oxalate diet can be helpful for people struggling with kidney stones but it will not eliminate your oxalate problem if you also have candida growing in the gut.
Candida in the gut can be an oxalate factory causing the majority of your oxalate issues.
You must kill the candida if you want to stop oxalate production.
Candida organisms have been found surrounding oxalates stones in the kidney, and the presence of yeast infections have been correlated with high amounts of oxalates. -Realize Health
How does candida get out of control
Eating Too Much Sugar
Sugar feeds candida and fungus so a high sugar diet will keep candida growing rapidly. Keep in mind that sugar can come from fruit juice, honey, white rice, bread, and similar items. Most of our modern foods are loaded with sugar.
Since antibiotics are made with fungus, it is one of the main causes for fungus/candida growing in the gut. I know from personal experience that sometimes you must take an antibiotic. You must follow it with some type of antifungal unless you want a horrible candida issue.
I actually got a bad fungus rash after a course of antibiotics that got out of hand quickly.
If you must use antibiotics you need to follow with a plan to kill candida, especially if you struggle with kidney stones.
Bad Gut Bacteria
If your gut is lacking in good bacteria it doesn’t take long for candida to overgrow. Good bacteria help fight off candida and bad bacteria from overgrowing and create a defense for your gut.
Bad gut bacteria will give way for candida to overgrow.
Chlorine in Drinking Water
Chlorine will kill off good bacteria in the gut which allows candida to take over. If you are constantly drinking Chlorine, you are giving candida a chance to take over.
