Here are 3 signs you have an unhealthy gut

Weight Problems

An unhealthy gut always seems to lead to weight problems. For some, they can be underweight because they are not absorbing their food properly. For most, bad gut bacteria leads to being overweight.

You heard that right, studies are now finding that bad gut bacteria can contribute to being overweight. Your gut bacteria could be making you fat.

In a recent study, rats and mice were given different gut bacteria and the scientists could increase or decrease the weight of the rats by the gut bacteria they gave them. People who are obese have different strains of bacteria in their gut than people who are thin.

Studies have found that the higher the ratio of Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes, the higher the risk of obesity.

Now the food you eat highly plays into this because you feed your gut bacteria based on the food you eat. The bacteria depend on you to survive and they can create strong cravings causing you to eat more carbs.

Harboring and feeding these bad gut bacteria increases your risk of insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, and bowel infections.

Anxiety and Depression

Since your gut is nicknamed your second brain…an unhealthy gut can cause anxiety and depression.

Your gut is responsible for making neurotransmitters such as serotonin, that happy hormone that helps you feel full and satisfied. Lower serotonin levels are linked to depression and anxiety. Your gut could be stealing your happiness.

Research has found, for example, that tweaking the balance between beneficial and disease-causing bacteria in an animal’s gut can alter its brain chemistry and lead it to become either bolder or more anxious.

Did you get that…your gut bacteria can create brain chemistry causing you to become brave or anxious. That’s a huge deal. Your gut is connected to your entire body and you can’t afford to have an unhealthy gut.

I know for a fact that this is true because after dealing with a nasty gut infection I was left feeling less anxious and more confident. The constant adrenaline rushes came to an end and I felt peace for the first time in a long time.

Histamine Issues

High histamine symptoms can range from chronic hives to migraines to horrible allergies. Histamine is an important neurotransmitter our body needs to fight infection, but when there is too much histamine, it can leave you an anxious mess.

Your gut should have natural enzymes like DAO to eat away the extra histamine. If you have an unhealthy gut, the extra histamine doesn’t get reduced. Even worse, a gut infection can create loads of extra histamine. This is the number one reason for high histamine levels.

I have personally dealt with debilitating migraines in the past and dealing with my gut health reduced my histamine and stopped my migraines.

You can’t live on Benadryl forever, it’s not healthy. Anytime you take an antihistamine you are blocking H1 and H2 receptors which will give you immediate relief of itching, sneezing and digestive problems but you are bombarding receptors H3 and H4 leaving the neurological system in a mess.

Cutting out high histamine foods does help tremendously in lowering levels but it will never get “fixed” until you gain control of bad gut bacteria.

If you are struggling with high histamine, chances are high you have an unhealthy gut.

Dealing with a nasty gut infection is the best way to lower histamine levels in the body.
